Mr.Cole says, "hi."
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] Dr.Ballif leaves for the One.
Mr.Cole says, "You need me?"
MiMa says, "hello""
MiMa says, "no""
NickSm says, "The argument is whether or not grades should be used to judge a students intellegence/potential"
Mr.Cole says, "Bye, then."
Mr.Cole waves.
NickSm says, "bye"
Mr.Cole goes out.
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] Mr.Cole has arrived.
NickSm says, "you agree MiMa"
MiMa says, "they shouldn't""
MiMa says, "yes, I agree""
NickSm says, "i dont agree..."
MiMa says, "why?""
NickSm says, "well, students don't have the will to learn themselves, so grades are needed to push them in the right direction"
NickSm says, "also parents can't/won't get involved enough"
MiMa says, "yes, but grades aren't anything. Some people can be great students, but take lousy tests""
NickSm says, "right, that's why a teacher's verbal evaluation is so much more unique and better as far as describing a student's ability"
MiMa says, "if parents really care, they would get involved, grades or not""
NickSm says, "true..."
MiMa says, "I stress out with tests, so I do worse""
NickSm says, "hold on a sec let me check other questions...."
NickSm says, "ok, what evidence does Goodman use to support his argument"
MiMa says, "um, the teacher"s opinions?""
MiMa says, "I don't think he has any""
NickSm says, "well on page 191 he talks about medieval times..."
MiMa says, "oh, ok, I see it""
NickSm says, "he also talks about s.a.t. tests and achievement tests for Harvard"
MiMa says, "well, alrighty then""
MiMa says, "next question?""
NickSm says, "I just realized that i've been calling by your screen name...what's your first name?"
MiMa says, "Mi Anne""
NickSm says, "ok"
MiMa says, "and your Nick?""
NickSm says, "next...strongest/weakest parts of argument"
NickSm says, "yup"
NickSm says, "um on 191 he slips up by saying that the parents have done a lot of damage"
NickSm says, "you all haven't learned them yet but i think its a fallacy...not sure which one..."
MiMa says, "yeah, but he has a good point, ultimately it is the student who it's all about""
MiMa says, "like, the student can be just tired of school, but he's not a bad student. Grades and tests ultimately do not make the student""
MiMa says, "He points out that what a student does is the important thing""
NickSm says, "uh, i was cut off for a sec"
NickSm says, "anyway..."
MiMa says, "ok""
NickSm says, "the fallacies he's guilty of are probably post hoc and false analogies(263)"
[Mr.Cole's Classroom] Mr.Cole says, "Hey everybody, try to wrap it up and get ready to come out here."
